A pet peeve of mine is seeing cryptid lists that include native creatures. Because they’re not cryptids.

Cryptids are creatures born out of local myths and urban legends, who likely are false.

Our creatures are not these things. They are creatures we know to exist. That we have come across, and have interacted with, and know.

There’s a reason my family doesn’t talk about the cold and being hungry when outside in the cold. There’s a reason other natives do the things they do. Because these creatures are real to us.

This goes for the W*ndigo, skinwalkers, Thunderbirds, etc.

Stop calling them cryptids.

i say this not to be like Young People Bad, but IMO there’s a very specific subset of Weird Internet Creators (mcelroys, neil cicierega, bdg, etc) that tend to have very young-skewing fans who don’t know how to interact with those creators appropriately and think it’s okay to make nsfw jokes or kin jokes or shipping jokes about those people, including saying that stuff TO THOSE CREATORS’ FACES during livestreams, and it’s like. i don’t know if those people just haven’t been in a lot of fanbases in the past or think that someone having a ‘weird’ persona is a justification for making weird kink jokes about them but

Just a reminder that we, the older generation of internet users, set the tone for that to be ok by being creepy towards real people and shipping them (i.e. Phan) freely.  Because we made that an “acceptable” thing on such a wide scale, younger people picked it up and transferred it into real life.  This isn’t a Young People Bad problem.  It’s an Older People Setting A Bad Example problem.

It really shows how deeply ingrained that prejudice is.

I am fat. I’ve had to come to terms with that, because I can’t lose weight without a combination of unhealthy levels of stress, exercise, and starvation, and it won’t stay off. I know I’m not what most people consider an attractive weight… or height, or shape, or anything else frankly. But just stating the fact that I am fat should not be this huge insult that skinny people act like it is. That says way more about you and what you really think of people like me, and that’s what actually upsets me.
